Your accountabilities | Director Strategic Purchasing

  • Strategy - Prepare an annual purchasing strategy. Identify sourcing strategies (preferred suppliers, outsourcing). Manage the implementation of the strategy. Agree and communicate the strategy to internal customers. Manage supplier relationships to fit into this strategy. Manage lead Buyer tasks as assigned.
  • Interface with Internal Customers - Devise a tactical plan in line with agreed sourcing strategy. Prepare approach to negotiations. Facilitate the negotiation process. Conduct and conclude negotiations. Communicate conclusions with participating suppliers. Ensure that decisions are communicated internally.
  • Management of contractual risk within the portfolio of spend - Follow policy and strategy to manage contractual risk. Confirming, clarifying and structuring the results of negotiations. Negotiate and agree terms of contract. Preparing and amending contract within agreed guidelines. Amend or modify contracts in light of operational or market forces.
  • Facilitation - Ensure up to date contract details are lodged with Legal. Expired contracts are archived and supplier details removed from databases Work with Finance to resolve any invoice queries. Lead cross functional teams to capture cost saving opportunities.
  • Purchasing Policy - Define a Purchasing Policy. Communicate and implement this policy with all internal users. Review the policy in light of business changes (e-procurement). Provide regular feedback to management on KPI's. Ensure Purchasing audit compliance.
  • Co-ordinating the Supplier base - Build up an international purchasing network to maximise leverage opportunities. Develop and share market intelligence by attending industry exhibitions and seminars. Encourage wider interest from non contracted suppliers for future supply arrangements
  • Building and managing the team – Setting purchasing team objectives. Conducting purchasing team appraisals. Acting as a mentor to fellow team members. Motivation of fellow team members.

Your Profile | Director Strategic Purchasing

  • A university degree, MBA or equivalent in technology management or business economics, at least 7 - 10 years experience in a similar purchasing executive position.
  • Preferably know-how of the PV-industryExcellent communication skills with a minimum of Dutch, English and German (verbal and written).
  • Strategy versus hands-on mentality: act in a rapidly changing market which has high impact on the purchasing strategy and the daily sourcing activities.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness – Build and maintain relationships at all levels of the organization and outside the organization that are based on mutual trust and respect.
  • Demonstrated natural leadership ability, self starter, highly motivated and able to work independently, ability to think out of the box, result driven (dealmaker) and hands-on working style.
  • Creative problem solving – Pursues new opportunities, visualizes new ways of doing things and engages others to implement improvements.
  • Experience with Asian based suppliers and outsourcing projects in that area.
  • Based in Venlo (The Netherlands) and Gelsenkirchen (Germany) and willing to travel regularly.

Our customer is a leading and rapidly growing manufacturer of glass and solar systems with over 1800 employees and headquarters located in the Netherlands. The company designs, produces and sells photovoltaic (PV) solar modules and total PV solar solutions. As a system house and integrator, they design, develop and realize turnkey PV systems containing both standard and/or glass-glass modules. The company has a wide experience in the realization of large eye catching PV projects as well as small domestic PV solutions.
The PV production facility is located in Gelsenkirchen (Germany) and has the most modern module production lines in Europe. The production facility for BIPV modules is located in Venlo.
